Traffic development remains weak |
The worldwide economic downturn is reflected in current traffic figures for Austrian airspace.
IFR Movements for the period January - June decreased by 10.2% compared to last year (minus 59.314 movements). Overall traffic is expected to decrease by 6% by the end of the year. This puts Austria slightly below the European drop, which is estimated at 5.5% for the year by Eurocontrol. Graph

Markus Pohanka new Head of External Relations |
Markus Pohanka is new Head of External Relations at Austro Control. He will assume his position in Mid August. His main responsibilities will be including corporate communications and international relations.

FAB CE receives ATC Global Award |
The project of the central european airspace block FAB CE was honored at this years ATC Global in Amsterdam with the prestigious "Contribution to European ATM" award. New Austro Control Management Board |
As of January 1, Heinz Sommerbauer has assumed his position as new managing director of Austro Control. Together with Johann Zemsky, who has been part of the management board since 1999, he will be heading the Company for the next years.
Heinz Sommerbauer, 54, has been with Austro Control since 1995. He initially was head of International Cooperations. In 2000 he became General Secretary, where his responsibilities included corporate development, communications, customer relations, environmental affairs and new services. Up until now he has also been serving as joint signatory for the Company.
