Lasers § 128 LFG (Aviation Act)

 
Lasers can cause both electrical and optical interference with aviation. Therefore, specific regulations must be observed when installing or operating them.
 
The use of lasers classified as 1M, 2M, 3R, 3B, and 4 according to ÖVE/ÖNORM EN 60825-1+A11+A2 ("Safety of Laser Equipment – Part 1: Classification of Systems, Requirements, and User Guidelines") is only permitted with approval in accordance with § 94. Exceptions apply to lasers and laser equipment necessary for maintenance activities and for ensuring the safe and orderly operation of airports.
 
Authorities responsible for such approval:
  • If the installation is located outside or below the safety zone of a military or civil airport: Austro Control GmbH
  • If the installation is located within the safety zone of a civil airport: the authority responsible for issuing the civil airport approval, if necessary, in coordination with the Federal Minister of Defense
