Small balloons, tethered balloons, kites and rockets

 
The launching of small balloons, tethered balloons, kites and rockets within safety zones and below safety zones, and/or industrial sites at risk of fire and explosion is prohibited.
 
The following regulation applies to small balloons:
 
Notwithstanding this prohibition on climbing within and below security zones, only:
  • Within a radius of 15 km from the aerodrome reference point, only 30 small balloons.
  • Within a radius of more than 15 km from the aerodrome reference point, only 100 small balloons may be released.
  • Exemption from this minimum number of small balloons may be granted by the competent provincial governor.
 
Tethered balloons, kites and rockets may only be carried out within control zones (information can be found here) with the consent of the air traffic control office in question, and within military close control districts, military control zones and military airfield traffic zones only with the consent of the locally responsible military air traffic control.
 
Within 2500 metres of the aerodrome reference point of uncontrolled aerodromes, tethered balloons, kites and rockets may only be flown with the approval of the aerodrome operations manager. 
 
The operation of kites, tethered balloons, rockets and the like at altitudes of 150 m above ground level upwards or under circumstances where an overflight of the federal borders must be expected is only permitted with the permission of Austro Control GmbH, notwithstanding other provisions.
 
The operation of wish lanterns / skylanterns (miniature hot air balloons, etc.) is not permitted. Wishlist Lantern Ordinance: Wunschlaternenverordnung
