Austro Control issues AOC to Easyjet Europe

Airline chooses Austria for European AOC – quality of Austro Control as aviation authority deciding factor
Austro Control CEO Heinz Sommerbauer today expressed his great pleasure that an intensive examination process over several months has now been concluded in a very positive way:
European competition in this field has turned out to be very tough and as Austro Control Aviation Authority we are very glad about this success”, says CEO Heinz Sommerbauer in a first statement.

With an AOC (Air Operator Certificate) issued by Austro Control easyJet Europe is now an Airline under Austrian registration, obliged to fulfill all relevant Austrian and EU-regulation. As easyJet stated, Austro Control was chosen as the new regulator because Austro Control has a rigorous approach to safety regulation, with an emphasis on performance based safety regulation.

Austro Control CEO Heinz Sommerbauer explains: „We could demonstrate that maintaining consistently high safety-standards while at the same time focusing on good service to the customer is what nowadays is being expected from a modern Aviation Authority.  If an Airline like easyJet after thorough consideration opted for Austro Control as regulator, it shows that the airline believes in the high competence of our employees and in our corporate culture – and that of course makes us very happy”.

The AOC issued to easyJet Europe by Austro Control will enable the airline to operate flights within the European Union even after the UK has left the EU.
During the last few months all required prerequisites were examined with easyJet Europe to become an airline in Austria on the Austrian Aircraft register. Now that the AOC has been issued to easyJet Europe, Austro Control will be responsible for the permanent oversight of the new airline. In concrete terms the authority will perform regular audits and inspections, as is the case with all other national carriers on the Austrian register, such as Austrian, NIKI or Eurowings Europe. Flight inspectors will primarily focus on operational and technical aspects as well as the maintenance of the fleet, the same as with any other Austrian airline.
Austro Control as CAA has a very high reputation throughout the industry and is known for efficient handling of aircraft registration in Austria. This decision of easyJet Europe for Austro Control also means that Austro Control will be closely cooperating with the UK CAA in the coming months and years.
