Austro Control signs joint declaration on "Unruly Passengers"

With the Joint Declaration on "Unruly Passengers", the Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure, airports, airlines and Austro Control as the aviation authority have committed themselves to a determined, coordinated approach against disruptive and safety-threatening behaviour on board and on the ground.
Austro Control Managing Director Elisabeth Landrichter signed the declaration together with the most important representatives of the industry, emphasising the clear commitment to more respectful interaction.

One particular challenge has become increasingly important in aviation in recent years: the behaviour of so-called "unruly passengers". These passengers disobey the instructions of the cabin crew, disrupt orderly operations or even jeopardise safety on board. In the joint declaration, the most important Austrian institutions and airlines are now sending a clear signal: against disrespectful behaviour - and for safety, order and fair cooperation in air traffic.

"Safety in air traffic is not a subject for negotiation - it is a basic requirement," emphasises Federal Minister Peter Hanke. "Unruly passengers pose an unacceptable risk to staff and passengers. Anyone who flies must abide by the rules. This is precisely why we are sending out a strong signal today, with clear rules and full support for all those who work in aviation."

Austro Control actively supports the initiative
Managing Director Elisabeth Landrichter emphasises: "Safety in aviation is a top priority for Austro Control as an air navigation service provider and aviation authority. We therefore support this initiative and are signing this charter today. 'Unruly passengers' have increasingly become a safety problem in recent years. This makes it all the more important for the entire industry to join forces to raise awareness of this issue and define possible solutions."

Austro Control acts as a central reporting centre and records all critical incidents. This makes it easier to recognise developments and derive suitable measures - in close coordination with the ministry and all relevant stakeholders.
